Matthew Handy

I’m Matthew Handy, a friendly and experienced maths and physics tutor based in Harrogate. With over twenty-five years of teaching and examining experience, I’ve helped nearly 500 students achieve their academic goals through more than 15,000 hours of one-to-one tuition since 1992. My approach focuses on deep understanding rather than just higher grades, tailoring lessons to individual needs and interests to make subjects as simple and enjoyable as possible. I teach A level Maths, Further Maths, Statistics, and Physics, as well as GCSE Maths and Physics for students aiming for top grades. I also support undergraduates in mathematically demanding courses like Economics and Business Studies. Beyond subject knowledge, I provide guidance on university applications, including UCAS personal statements, Oxbridge admissions, and interview preparation, drawing from my experience in the legal and accounting professions. My students appreciate my enthusiasm, approachability, and dedication to their success, often describing me as more than just a tutor. I’m available for support outside lesson times and have been featured as Talksport Radio’s maths expert on coin tossing in cricket.
