About me

Are you working on an EPQ, an independent research project, research skills needed for university or University level research?

I'm a Professor of Zoology with over 25 years of experience teaching and researching animal behavioural ecology, welfare, conservation and human evolution. I've spent my career asking questions, investigating problems, analysing evidence and working out what the results really tell us. Now I'd like to help you develop those same skills.

Whether you're just starting your project, stuck halfway through or struggling to turn your findings into a convincing argument, we'll work through the challenges together.

I can help you:

• Find a research question that genuinely interests you and is manageable.

• Work out where to find reliable evidence and how to judge whether it's any good.

• Plan a research project and choose appropriate methods.

• Think critically about what your evidence actually shows.

• Turn your ideas and findings into a clear, well-structured dissertation.

• Prepare to explain and defend your conclusions.

I specialise in biology, zoology, animal behavioural ecology, animal welfare and conservation, but many of the research skills I teach apply to other subjects too.

My sessions are tailored to your project. I'll ask questions, explain things clearly and help you work out your own solutions, rather than simply telling you what to write. I can feedback on written work and help improve your writing style.

The aim is for you to finish with a stronger project, greater confidence and research skills you can take with you to university and beyond!
