How we write, source and correct what we publish.
TutorLab publishes guides for parents and tutors, research on UK tutoring, and comparisons with other tutoring platforms. This page says who writes them, where their numbers come from, and what to do if you find something wrong.
Who writes it
Our guides and research pages are written by the TutorLab team. We use AI tools to help research and draft them. Every page is published by TutorLab, and we are responsible for everything on it.
Where the numbers come from
- Research pages name the source and date of every figure they quote, from primary sources where they exist: JCQ and Ofqual for exam results, the Sutton Trust for tutoring polling, and our own directory.
- “TutorLab directory data” means tutors who joined TutorLab and published a profile themselves, recalculated daily. Public listings that a tutor has not claimed are never counted as TutorLab tutors.
- When a figure is an estimate, we say so next to it.
Comparisons with other platforms
Our comparison pages are written by TutorLab, about TutorLab and other tutoring platforms. They should quote each platform's own published terms and label anything else as an estimate. If you find one that does not, tell us and we will correct it.
Reviews
Tutor reviews on TutorLab come only from real, paid lessons. We do not write, buy or filter reviews: our reviews policy has the detail, and how we check tutors explains every badge.
How TutorLab makes money
Tutors pay for a TutorLab plan. On families TutorLab introduces, the tutor keeps their full rate and the family pays one all-in price: the price shown is the price paid. When a tutor's own existing family pays through TutorLab, on any payment method, a 5% processing fee (minimum 30p) added to the family's price (no fee on Pro); the tutor keeps their full rate. Our guides mention TutorLab where it is relevant to the reader, and we say so when a page is about our own product.
