A-level papers, June 2027 series

A-level exam dates 2027

A-level results day 2027 is Thursday 12 August 2027. Written papers start on Monday 10 May 2027 and, on AQA, OCR and WJEC Eduqas, finish on Friday 18 June 2027. Pearson Edexcel runs 3 days longer, to Monday 21 June 2027, and Wednesday 23 June 2027 is held back as the contingency day. The dates come from JCQ's final June 2027 key dates and each board's own published A-level timetable, read on Thursday 29 October 2026.

From 10 May to results day on 12 August

The boards sit their papers in common slots agreed through JCQ, so the window is the same whichever board a school uses. Pearson Edexcel is the one board whose last papers run past the others.

How many weeks to your first paper

Find the subject, then read across to the board on your exam entry. Each cell shows that board's first A-level paper and the whole weeks left from Sunday 8 November 2026. A dash means the subject is not on that board's A-level timetable. Weeks are counted from the date above.

The first paper is the earliest written paper on that board's timetable for the subject. Your school issues a personal timetable with only the papers you are entered for, and that is the one to work from. Languages, art, drama and music also have speaking tests and coursework deadlines, which are not shown.

Counting down to a first paper? Find an A-level tutor or tell us what you need, about 2 minutes. No account or card needed.

Further Maths is the only subject where the board moves the start

Of the 16 subjects in the table that more than one board offers, 15 start on the same day on every board that offers them.

Further Maths starts on 12 May with Pearson Edexcel, 18 May with OCR, 20 May with AQA: a gap of 8 days between the earliest and latest board. Check the board on the entry before counting weeks.

The first day matches, the number of papers does not

How many written papers each board sets for the same subject:

  • English Literature: AQA 2, Pearson Edexcel 3, OCR 2, WJEC Eduqas 3
  • English Language: AQA 2, Pearson Edexcel 3, OCR 2, WJEC Eduqas 3
  • History: AQA 2, Pearson Edexcel 3, OCR 3
  • Geography: AQA 2, Pearson Edexcel 3, OCR 3, WJEC Eduqas 3

Counts are the written papers on each board's timetable, with option papers counted once. Coursework is separate.

Maths gets 22 days, Biology gets 12

Maths and the three sciences use identical dates on every board that offers them. The window from first to last paper decides how revision can be paced, so it is worth knowing before the timetable arrives. Once you have your weeks to the first paper, the revision hours calculator turns them into a weekly plan for each subject, and last summer's A-level grade boundaries show how many marks a grade took. For papers to practise on, the past papers finder opens each exam board's own page.

Physics21 May, 27 May, 8 June19
Chemistry28 May, 10 June, 17 June21
Biology7 June, 14 June, 18 June12

Biology starts last of the four, on 7 June, and its papers are spread over 12 days. It also has the shortest window.

The timetables behind every date

England, Wales and Northern Ireland (JCQ common timetable). CCEA, Scotland (SQA) and international timetables are separate.

Read on Thursday 29 October 2026. Where a subject has a B version with the same code stem, such as OCR Biology B, it sits on the same dates as the A version shown. Boards can move papers, so confirm against your board and your school before booking anything around a date.
