Sophie Hocking

I am an independent primary tutor based in the Plymouth area, offering Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 tuition with specialist experience in supporting children with special educational needs (SEND). With a diverse teaching background across mainstream and SEND settings in the Midlands and Devon, I now run my own tuition business to provide personalised, nurturing learning experiences tailored to each child’s interests and needs. Fully DBS checked and holding up-to-date safeguarding training, paediatric and adult first aid certifications, I ensure a safe and reliable service. My approach focuses on creating engaging, individualised lessons that foster a love for learning, boost confidence, and improve self-esteem. I hold a First Class BA Honours in Dance from DeMontfort University and a PGCE in Primary Education with Distinction, where I was awarded Student of the Year for my dissertation on inclusivity in both special and mainstream settings. Based near the coast, I incorporate the local environment into lessons, with students often spotting boats from the window during brain breaks. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy sea swimming, travelling in my campervan, and spending time with my cats, Bernard and Winston.
