This page says exactly how a GCSE maths lesson comes about on TutorLab, what it costs you, and what we have checked about a tutor, so you can compare it with any other site line by line. As of 2 September 2026, maths is the subject with the most lessons logged through TutorLab: 41, against 19 for physics and 16 for chemistry.

How a lesson comes about

You send one request. It says the level, the exam board if you know it, and anything the tutor must have. It goes to tutors who teach GCSE maths online, and they reply to you directly.

If nobody has replied within 21 hours, we widen the search to more tutors automatically. You do not need to do anything.

What you pay

You see one price before you book, and it is the price you pay. The tutor sets an hourly rate and receives it in full. TutorLab adds a 15% service fee on top, shown before you confirm, and that is the whole price.

Nothing to unlock and no subscription to message a tutor.

What we have checked, and what we have not

A Verified mark on a profile means a person at TutorLab has seen the evidence behind it. No mark means we have not seen it, and we would rather say so than imply it.

Before we introduce a tutor to an under-18 we require two unrelated references, sight of their qualifications and a verified enhanced DBS. If your child's request has to wait for that, we tell you that is the reason.

Exam boards

GCSE maths is set by 5 exam boards, and the papers differ. Tell us which one your child sits if you know it. It is the first thing a good tutor asks.

Online, in practice

Lessons are one to one over video, arranged directly with the tutor at times you agree between you. Online means you choose from tutors across the UK, not only those within driving distance.
