How it works

From search to first lesson.

01

Search and compare.

See each tutor's rate, experience and exam boards before you get in touch.

02

Message free.

Ask about availability and approach. No account needed, nothing to pay to ask.

03

Book the first lesson.

The price shown is one all-in price, so the price you see is the price you pay. Your tutor keeps their full rate.

Before you enquire

Questions parents ask.

How do I find a private tutor in the UK?
Browse tutor profiles by subject and location on TutorLab. Compare experience, subjects and the prices provided. If a profile does not publish a price, ask for the full quote before booking.
How much does a private tutor cost in the UK?
The 126 published profiles in our price sample advertise starting family prices from £12 to £190 per hour, all in. The sample excludes missing prices and prices below the report's inclusion threshold. Ask your tutor for a quote for your subject, level and lesson format.
Is the price on a profile the price I pay?
Yes. The price shown is one all-in price, so the price you see is the price you pay. Your tutor keeps their full rate. How it is made up is in our terms at tutorlab.uk/terms.
Is online or in-person tutoring better?
Both work well. Online tutoring opens a much larger pool of specialists and often costs less. In-person suits younger children or those who find it harder to focus on a screen.
What happens if a tutor does not reply?
Message two or three tutors rather than one, since availability changes week to week. If nobody has replied within 22 hours, we widen the search to more tutors automatically. You do not need to do anything. You can also ask TutorLab to match you: you describe what you need once, and up to 3 likely tutors can contact you directly.
Are reviews trustworthy?
A review can only be left by a parent who paid for lessons through TutorLab, so every one is attached to a real booking. TutorLab does not publish an overall star rating, because most tutors have too few verified reviews for an average to mean anything.
How do I know if a tutor is good?
Read the bio carefully. A good tutor explains their approach, not just their qualifications. Look for specificity (exam board, grade targets, teaching method). Always do a trial session before committing to regular bookings.
