Simple from the start

From search to first lesson, directly.

TutorLab helps you compare and contact tutors. The tutoring relationship stays between your family and the tutor you choose.

01

Search and compare.

Filter by subject, level, location and lesson format. See the tutor's rate, experience and specialisms before you contact them.

02

Message free.

Ask about availability, teaching approach and exam-board experience. No paid contact pass and no account needed to enquire.

03

Book with the tutor.

Agree the lesson directly. You pay the tutor's displayed rate, with nothing added by an agency in the middle.

Before you enquire

Clear answers for families.

The practical details parents usually want to know before contacting a tutor.

How do I find a private tutor in the UK?
Browse tutors by subject and location on TutorLab. Every tutor has a public profile with their rate, subjects, levels and a bio. Enquire directly with no agency fees.
How much does a private tutor cost in the UK?
Every tutor sets their own rate, shown on their profile. Across TutorLab's live directory, rates start from £10/hr and average around £35/hr. GCSE and A-Level specialists typically charge more than primary tutors, and London sits above the national average.
Does TutorLab add commission to the hourly rate?
No. The rate on a tutor's profile is the rate you pay them. TutorLab charges tutors nothing for being introduced to you, and adds nothing to their price.
Is online or in-person tutoring better?
Both work well. Online tutoring opens a much larger pool of specialists and often costs less. In-person suits younger children or those who find it harder to focus on a screen.
What happens if a tutor does not reply?
Message two or three tutors rather than one, since availability changes week to week. If nobody has replied within 48 hours, ask TutorLab to match you instead: you describe what you need once, and up to three likely tutors can contact you directly.
Are reviews trustworthy?
A review can only be left by a parent who paid for lessons through TutorLab, so every one is attached to a real booking. TutorLab does not publish an overall star rating, because most tutors have too few verified reviews for an average to mean anything.
How do I know if a tutor is good?
Read the bio carefully. A good tutor explains their approach, not just their qualifications. Look for specificity (exam board, grade targets, teaching method). Always do a trial session before committing to regular bookings.
